Bob Stewart wins Programmer Honor three of the last four years

For the second time, Jazz 88.3 KCCK, the public radio station operated by Kirkwood Community College, is JazzWeek’s Small Market Station of the Year. Program Director Bob Stewart was named Programmer of the Year for the fourth time.

Stewart wins the Programming award for the second consecutive year, and three of the last four years. KCCK was JazzWeek’s Station of the Year previously, in 2004.

KCCK Station Manager Dennis Green said “In today’s media environment, it’s nice for a professional like Bob to be recognized for his skill in choosing and recommending new jazz releases to create a unique experience for our local audience. It’s funny that a service like Pandora says that they will create a ‘personal radio station’ for you. At KCCK, we like to think a ‘personal’ station is one where the music is chosen by actual people. People like Bob Stewart.”

The awards were given out at the JazzWeek Summit in Rochester, New York on June 18. JazzWeek is a weekly online publication which publishes the national airplay chart for jazz radio. Nominees for the award are selected by JazzWeek subscribers, including jazz radio programmers, jazz record company executives and independent jazz radio record promoters.

Kirkwood Community College President Mick Starcevich says the KCCK honor reflects well on both the station and the college. “We’re proud and excited at Kirkwood for our station to be recognized nationally for what we hope our community already knows. That KCCK is not just a good station by local standards, but can compete with the best that their industry has to offer anywhere. It’s just another example of how Kirkwood is the community’s college, reaching out with radio and education programs to engage music lovers and students of all ages.”

Jazz 88.3 KCCK-FM is a locally-programmed public radio station owned by Kirkwood Community College, broadcasting in analog FM and HD Radio at 88.3 FM. Johnson County translator at 106.9 FM.
