Allison Settlage receives scholarship to further her pre-med career goal

Phi Theta Kappa and Kirkwood Community College announce that Allison Settlage has received a 2010 Leaders of Promise Scholarship. Settlage earned the rare honor for her outstanding academic work in the 2009-10 year at Kirkwood.

The Cedar Rapids native joined Phi Theta Kappa in spring 2010, and is pursuing an associate degree in pre-medicine. Settlage is one of only 30 students nationally to receive this scholarship honor.

Leaders of Promise Scholarship recipients from 20 states were awarded $1,000 to help with educational expenses and participate in Phi Theta Kappa. The Leaders of Promise Scholar program requires students to maintain high academic standards and encourages them to participate as leaders in society programs.

Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society inducting nearly 100,000 students annually at chapters on community college campuses in all 50 states. Members are taught practical skills to develop leadership roles. Students must complete 12 credit hours and maintain a 3.5 GPA in those classes to apply for Phi Theta Kappa.
