Farmer’s Market Program now at Heritage Agency

By June 4, 2010January 14th, 2019No Comments

June often marks the opening of many area farmer’s markets. It also marks the beginning of the annual Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program, sponsored by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and administered by the Heritage Agency on Aging.

This popular program is open to seniors age 60 and above who have income of less than $20,036 for individuals or $26,955 for couples. Coupon books are now available for the 2010 season.

The coupons come in books of 10 $3 coupons, and are available at distribution sites in the surrounding area. Coupons are redeemable at participating area farmer’s markets and vendors.

Heritage officials note that not all area farmer’s markets and vendors accept the senior coupons. Consult the booklet that is provided with each book of coupons for more information. Coupons are only redeemable for fresh produce and honey. Crafts, jams, baked goods and other products are not part of this program.

For the distribution site nearest you or for questions about the Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program, please contact Tim Getty at the Heritage Agency, 319-398-5559.
