Men’s Golf Wins Regional Championship

National tournament bound, May 22-25 

The Kirkwood Community College Men’s Golf team was crowned Region XI champions after shooting a 590 in the two-day tournament held at Fort Dodge Country Club. The men had a 15 stroke lead over the nearest competitor, Iowa Central.

Freshman Mitch Jacobi champions (Belle Plaine, Iowa) led all scorers with a 145 (71-74). Tying for second place was freshman Marcus Giltner (Batavia, Iowa) with a 148 (74-74). Sean Cleary (Tipperary, Ireland) tied for fourth place with a 149 (72-77), Dalton Stevens (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) shot a 150 (72-78) and Kirby Brown (West Des Moines, Iowa) had a 154 (78-76).

The regional tournament win marks the eighth title in the last nine years for the Eagles, and gives the team a berth to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament held in Plymouth, Ind. May 22-25.
