Focus on education, financial help and job search in free event

For many people in eastern Iowa, the past year has been especially challenging in terms of lost jobs, stalled careers and other professional challenges. Kirkwood Community College has assembled a team to give those people a clear message: “We can help you get back on your feet.”

A key part of that message will take shape in a special “Careers Start Here” adult information workshop on Monday, April 27. The event is set for the new Kirkwood Center for Continuing Education, 7725 Kirkwood BLVD SW, on the south side of the main Kirkwood campus. The 9 a.m. to noon session will include:

• Information on financial assistance for those seeking education and training. That support could include scholarships, loans and grants to cover tuition, books and in some cases, child care;

• Background and details on the many programs Kirkwood offers, from short-term skill training to two-year degrees; and

• Help in job-seeking skills, including resume’ writing assistance and interviewing skills.

The information session will include representatives from Skills to Employment, the Emergency Public Jobs program, plus Kirkwood Admissions and Career Services staff.
