Weekend events Oct. 25-26 feature fun and horsemanship with Halloween, family themes

For the sixth consecutive year the Iowa Arabian Horse Association will hold the Arabian Spooktacular Horse Show at the Iowa Equestrian Center on the Kirkwood campus. We will be celebrating Halloween with Family and the Arabian Horse on Saturday night, followed by an Arabian Amateur Horse Show on Sunday.

Halloween activities begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening with a Grand Entry and Door Prizes for anyone in costume, Best Horse & Rider Costume classes for four age groups, Games on Horseback, and a Liberty class where beautiful Arabian horses will showcase the natural beauty and athleticism for which they have been bred for centuries.

Sunday’s horse show begins at 8 a.m. and will include Halter and Performance classes for the Arabian and Half-Arabian breed, in addition to classes that are open to all breeds. Look for a full range of Western, English, Hunter, and Walk-Trot classes, as well as Reining, Native Costume, and Driving. There are classes for the Novice, Amateur, and Youth riders, too.

The Arabian Horse Spooktacular is a unique and fun way for people to be introduced to the Arabian breed. The aim of this event is to highlight the many uses of the breed, bring families together, and introduce the community to the allure of the Arabian breed. There is no charge for spectators and everyone is welcome.

The Iowa Arabian Horse Association (IaAHA) was founded in 1954 to foster use and encourage the improvement of the Arabian and Half-Arabian horse by providing educational, recreational and social activities. In addition, IaAHA holds three recognized shows in Des Moines and one at the Iowa Equestrian Center each year. The association also sponsors classes at the Block & Bridle, Iowa State Fair, and Competitive Rides in Iowa.
