More Scholarship Aid for Flood-Affected Students

State of Iowa grant adds to more donor support for Kirkwood students affected by 2008 disasters

For Kirkwood Community College students struggling after the 2008 floods and storms, more scholarship help is on the way. Iowa state government support will add to more donations from college donors to help ensure educational opportunities.

The State of Iowa has made available Iowa Disaster Relief Grant funding totaling up to $500,000 for students who have been adversely impacted by the summer 2008 natural disasters. Eligible students may receive one-time awards of up to $5,000 for the 2008-2009 academic year. The state program will be administered by the Iowa College Student Aid Commission.

The Kirkwood Foundation announced new scholarship funds made available for students impacted by the Iowa floods. $500 scholarships from the Kirkwood Flood Relief Fund are available to current Kirkwood students who meet the following criteria:

• Enrolled for fall and spring semesters, 2008-2009,

• A minimum grade point average of 2.5, and

• Include in the scholarship application details of how the Flood of 2008 personally affected them and your pre-flood address.

The application deadline for both scholarship programs is September 15, 2008.

Scholarship applications are available online at: www.kirkwood.edu/scholarships. Students who have already completed an application for the 2008-09 academic year should e-mail scholarships.office@kirkwood.edu to have their application re-considered in light of recent events.
