Kirkwood’s Flaucher delivers the pitch

Dairo Gonzalez and Catie Flaucher recognized after successful weeks

Kirkwood Community College baseball and softball players were tabbed NJCAA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week after strong performances last week. Infielder Dairo Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.) and pitcher Catie Flaucher (Independence, Iowa) received the honors.

Gonzalez was impressive at the plate, hitting .512 (21-for-41) with six doubles, a triple and five home runs. The freshman tallied 21 RBI’s, including nine against Division I No. 4 Iowa Western Community College.

After a record-breaking week, Eagles sophomore Catie Flaucher was tabbed National Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. Flaucher earned five wins last week and recorded a school-record 18 strikeouts in a 7-0 shutout against North Arkansas College. Flaucher totaled 64 strikeouts in 34 innings and gave up only one earned run.

The Kirkwood baseball team will head to Burlington this weekend to take on Southeastern Community College in a four-game conference series. The Eagles softball team opens its conference weekend with games at Iowa Lakes on Saturday and NIACC on Sunday.
