Keith Stamp to represent Jones County area
Kirkwood Community College has appointed Dr. Keith Stamp of Monticello, Iowa as the newest member of the college’s board of trustees. The long-time educator will serve out the remaining term of Stacey Iben, also of Monticello. Iben recently gave up her Kirkwood board position to devote more time to her young family. Stamp’s appointed term will expire in September 2008.
Stamp has been involved in eastern Iowa education for many years, with three decades as a teacher and administrator for the Monticello High School. Since 2001 he has served as a regional administrator for the Grant Wood Area Education Agency. Stamp also served on the Monticello City Council from 1979 to 1983, then a term as mayor of Monticello, 1983-85. He also is a member of the Monticello Development Corporation Board of Directors.
Stamp holds multiple degrees from the University of Northern Iowa, the latest an Ed.D in Education Administration conferred in 1994. He is a member of the School Administrators of Iowa and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development. He lives in Monticello with his wife, Sandy Stamp. They have a daughter, Nadia Dwight and son-in-law, Jason Dwight, and another son, Geoff Stamp.
Kirkwood President Mick Starcevich thanked Stamp for offering his assistance to the college and his “unique perspectives on learning and the community” brought to the governing body.
“I have personally known Keith for many years and admire his energy and wisdom. The many ways he has been involved in the wider community are also a testament to how he seeks to understand the bigger picture. With our new regional center developing in Jones County and the wide scope of our area school partnerships, the insights of Keith Stamp can only make the whole Kirkwood area a stronger and better place. It is a delight to welcome him to our college’s leadership,” Starcevich added.
In accepting the new role, Stamp commented, “I look forward to learning and providing any support I can to assist Kirkwood to become an even stronger organization. I am especially eager to continue the connections with high school students and the opportunities Kirkwood offers to enhance the work force in our area.”
Stamp will formally assume his duties at the April 22 regular meeting of the Kirkwood Board of Trustees.
