Eagles Were a 2013 Divisional Winner in the Nation-wide Fundraiser

Cedar Rapids, Iowa (February 13, 2014)—The Kirkwood Eagles women’s basketball team will be taking on two opponents this Saturday in the Play 4Kay game. On the court, the Eagles will face conference foe Iowa Lakes Community College. However, the other, much larger opponent will be breast cancer.

The Kirkwood Play 4Kay Game is part of a nation-wide initiative in conjunction with the charitable organization the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The funds raised will go towards the fight against breast cancer. Half of the gate will be donated to the cause and a raffle will be held as well. In addition, the Eagles are encouraging everyone to wear pink to show their support.

The event has become an annual tradition at Kirkwood and has earned the college recognition for the effort. In 2013, Kirkwood was named a 2013 divisional winner of the initiative.

Since 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has raised almost 3 million dollars for the cause. For more information on Play 4Kay and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, go to www.kayyow.com.
