The Marlin B. and Gail F. Cox Endowed Scholarship will continue to benefit many students

The Kirkwood Foundation gratefully announces the receipt of a gift from the estate of Gail Cox of Cedar Rapids. It will be added to the Marlin B. and Gail F. Cox Endowed Scholarship, established in 2010 to provide scholarships for students with financial need. This new gift brings the balance of this scholarship fund to over $250,000.

Marlin Cox passed away in 1985 after working for Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric for many years. Gail Cox worked as an accountant and passed away in May of 2013. The couple had no children. Following the 2008 flood, Gail lost her home on Ellis Boulevard but maintained her positive attitude. She believed this gift was a way to “pay forward” the help she received after the flood by positively impacting individuals striving to improve their lives through education.

The Cox’s gift funds two of the Kirkwood Foundation’s highest priorities: assisting students with financial need and enhancing scholarship endowments. Kirkwood Community College gratefully acknowledges the difference their gifts are making.
