Cedar Rapids, Iowa (June 2, 2014) —The safety of the state’s water supply will be the focus of Kirkwood Community College’s innovative water and wastewater conferences. Held annually, the conferences bring together industry leaders to focus on water quality and protection.

From the latest in environmentally sustainable practices to breaking updates from the Iowa DNR, the conferences are vital to wastewater professionals. “These annual conferences bring professionals from every corner of the state to discuss water issues in Iowa,” said Kim Becicka, vice president of Continuing Education and Training Services. “Our speakers, top industry experts with years of experience, discuss everything from rules and regulations to inventive ways of better protecting our environment.”

Some of this year’s topics include pipe tapping and repair, optimization for flocculation and backwash, tank rehabilitation, odor control systems, lagoon management and identification, and control of filamentous bacteria.

Kirkwood will hold conferences for both water and wastewater. The Annual Water Conference runs June 16 – 17 with Wastewater held July 28 – 29. Conference attendees may renew their current licenses for the upcoming renewal period and earn continuing education units.

Both conferences take place at the Kirkwood Continuing Education Training Center located at 101 50th Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids. Cost to attend each conference is $135. For more information visit www.kirkwood.edu/ce.
