Kirkwood Community College recently assisted 18 companies in the Creative Corridor to complete applications for the 260E Iowa New Jobs Training Program, an incentive platform for companies expanding operations or relocating to a new facility in the state of Iowa. The 18 companies’ combined training fund and project costs totaled $3,755,000, creating 756 new jobs.

Economic Development Strategist at Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, Dennis Jordan, remarked, “The Iowa New Jobs Training Program offers an easy and efficient way for employers to provide reimbursable training to their employees. It is a program few other states offer and is considered a model for the country.”

The businesses most recently benefitting from this support include: Applied Microwave Technology (Cedar Rapids), Clickstop, Inc (Urbana), Cole’s Quality Foods, Inc (North Liberty), GreatAmerica Financial Services Corporation (Cedar Rapids), IDX Subsidiary Industries Inc (Iowa City), Innovative Software Engineering (Iowa City), Iowa Renewable Energy (Washington), Leepfrog Technologies, Inc (Coralville and Iowa City), MediRevv (Coralville), Premiere Business Solutions, LLC (Cedar Rapids), River Bend Industries (Victor), Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc (Coralville), Shasta QA (Coralville), Specialty Blending Co LLC (Cedar Rapids), T&K Roofing Company (Ely), Thomas L Cardella & Associates (Cedar Rapids), Tipton Structural Fabrication, Inc (Cedar Rapids and Tipton), and Tri State Tower (Marion).

Kirkwood Community College, in cooperation with the Iowa Economic Development Authority, administers the program. Funds for training and project costs are generated by using tax credits from the employers’ regular withholding taxes that are paid for the employees in the created jobs.

“The 260E program has such solid value. It’s an asset not only to our region, but to the state of Iowa,” said Kirkwood’s Vice President of Continuing Education and Training Services, Kim Becicka. “It shows immense support for our area employers who want to offer developmental opportunities to their employees and to Iowa’s economic growth.”
