The Hotel Partners to Help Save Lives

The Hotel at Kirkwood Center announced it will partner with Clean the World, a non-profit organization that recycles hotel amenities and distributes them to those in need.

“It is incredible to think that the simple act of recycling soap can actually save someone’s life,” said Lee Belfield, general manager of The Hotel. “No only can this effortless program save millions of lives every year, it diverts tons of unnecessary waste from our nation’s landfills. The Hotel staff is honored to be a part of this noble, lifesaving mission.”

According to Clean the World, nearly 2 million children under the age of five die from treatable diseases. The use of bar soap could reduce this rate by 30 to 65 percent. Conversely, hotels throw away nearly 2 million bars of soap. Hotels working with Clean the World donate both used and unopened products, which are sterilized, repackaged and delivered free to those in need across the globe.

Clean the World is a nonprofit organization founded in Florida in 2009. Its mission is to prevent millions of deaths caused by hygiene related illnesses. In a few short years, Clean the World has put more than 11 million soap bars and 325,000 pounds of shampoo and conditioner back into human use, eliminating 750 tons of waste.
