The Winery at Kirkwood is pleased to announce that six wines from the 2010 vintage have been awarded the prestigious Iowa Vintners Quality Alliance Quality Wine Seal. This is awarded to Iowa wines that pass rigorous chemical analysis and a blind tasting by a panel of experts, comprised of Iowa winemakers, enology and viticulture instructors, and other wine professionals.

Members of the tasting panel spent two years undergoing training before beginning the process of selecting Iowa Quality Wines. This is the first year Iowa wines have been officially rated by the Iowa Vintners Quality Alliance.

“We are so happy that in just our second year of making wine, we’ve already been recognized as putting out a great product,” said Kirkwood Viticulture Technician Tom Moore. “It’s really a testament to the hard work of all of our Continuing Education students put in with our harvest and wine-making.”

The Iowa Vintners Quality Alliace recognized The Winery at Kirkwood’s Seyval, LaCrosse, Edelweiss, Frontenac Gris, Niagara, Catawba and St. Pepin wines with the Quality Wine Seal. Bottles of these wines, as well as the Foch, Frontenac and Four-Point-Oh! are available for purchase at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center, Wilson Avenue Hy-Vee, First Avenue Wine House, Benz Beverage Depot and the Secret Cellar in Shueyville.
