Cedar Rapids, Iowa (May 11, 2015)-Kirkwood Community College will honor more than 2,000 students at the college’s commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 16. The event will take place at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

The credit degrees, diplomas and certificates conferred will be for study in the current academic year. The number includes students who have applied for graduation, already been granted degrees or will complete them by the end of the summer term.

Various speakers will make remarks at the ceremony. Kirkwood Board of Trustees Chair Lois Bartelme will greet the audience on behalf of the college, with Emily Logan, president-elect of the Kirkwood Faculty Association also giving the instructor’s viewpoint on the students’ achievements. Madison Keysor of Treynor, Iowa, will speak on her student experiences while at the college. Keysor will graduate with a Pre-BSN (Nursing) Associate of Science degree. Kirkwood President Mick Starcevich will conclude the speaker’s schedule by giving his remarks to the graduates.

This is the 49th graduation for Kirkwood. In its founding year, 1966-67, the college had just 199 credit students enrolled at the college.

The ceremony is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required for attendees.
