Cedar Rapids, Iowa (October 21, 2015)-Kirkwood Community College will host High Tech Guys Day this Friday, October 23, 2015. The event targets young men from local middle and high schools who are interested in exploring business and information technology careers. High Tech Guys Day will take place in Nielsen Hall on Kirkwood’s main campus from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students will take part in interactive workshops and presentations on graphic communication technology, computer support, hardware repair and other in-demand technology careers in business and information technology.

According to Kirkwood Business and Information Technology Program Coordinator Sharon Blanchard, each event introduces area middle school and high school students from 8th grade through senior year to high paying, high demand career ideas.

“The program’s goals are to expose students to technology that may not be available in their local high schools or at home to spark interest in these in-demand industries,” said Blanchard. “Students have the unique opportunity to learn from faculty who teach in the IT programs through hands-on labs emphasizing many different and exciting fields.”

The High Tech Days program will feature hands-on labs in:

  • Computer Software Development
  • Network and System Administration
  • Graphic Communication Technology
  • Geographic Information Systems
  • Computer Support and Hardware Repair
  • Web Technologies
