Cedar Rapids, Iowa (February 15, 2016)—Kirkwood Community College will host the fifth annual 2016 East Central Iowa Safety and Health Conference on Thursday, February 25, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at The Kirkwood Center located at 7725 Kirkwood Avenue in Cedar Rapids.

According to the United States Department of Labor, nearly 3 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses were reported in 2014. The Safety and Health Conference will offer seminars to help employers reduce these statistics. Topics addressing active shooter response, ergonomic interventions, flash fire assessment and changes in OSHA reporting are examples of the twenty sessions presented.

“This year’s conference will feature speakers from both federal and state offices as well as the insurance and healthcare industries,” said Kirkwood Fire & Safety Program Manager David Hughes.

World-renowned safety motivational speakers, Brad and Dolores Gardner are the conference keynote speakers. Brad Gardner lost his arm in a workplace accident and uses his experience to help prevent future incidents. The Gardner’s have inspired hundreds of thousands of industrial workers from all levels of management.

This one-day training conference is an opportunity to earn continuing education units (CEUs), network and learn about the latest safety and health products and services. It is open to the public. Last year, nearly 200 attended.

To register for the conference, please call 319-398-1022 or 800-332-8833. More information is also available at www.kirkwood.edu/safetyconference.
