Kirkwood Hosts Transportation Academy Competition

Cedar Rapids, Iowa (March 30, 2016)-Kirkwood Community College’s Automotive Technology program is hosting a Transportation Academy Competition on Friday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local Transportation Academy high school students will be competing in various competitions for scholarships and other prizes.

The students will be competing against each other in various hands-on STEM activities associated with their academy curriculum. Those areas include basic electrical, industrial math and fundamental automotive technology skills.

Area automotive businesses will be assisting with the competition. Some of the companies have also donated prizes. The companies involved are:

  • Snap-On
  • Hunter Engineering
  • Toyota of Iowa City
  • McGrath Auto Group
  • Barron Motor Supply

In addition, the Antique Automotive Club of America and the Model A Club will host a car show in conjunction with the competition.
