What is Your Background?: I am from a town called Burlington, Iowa. It’s about 90 miles Southeast from Cedar Rapids. I graduated from Burlington High school in 2008. I have the best parents in the world. My dad is a contractor, he has his own business building homes, called Johnson Homes Inc. My mom works as a secretary at a law office.
What brought you to Kirkwood and why?: I had a friend move to Cedar Rapids in 2015 and had an extra room in her house. I took her up on her offer to move up here and decided to go back to school at Kirkwood. They had just started their exercise science program which really intrigued me because my passion is fitness and health.
What interest you about Exercise Science?: I am extremely passionate about fitness. I work out 5-6 times a week. I will get up at 4 a.m. just to get a workout in before my day starts. I love helping people better themselves as well.
Are you involved in anything else on campus?: On campus I am involved in doing the Free Fitness Festivals, which are held once a month in Linn Hall Lobby. It is coordinated by the Exercise Science program students.
Are you involved in anything off campus?: I am a group fitness trainer at Kosama Cedar Rapids on Boyson road. I am their head trainer and lead classes such as Cardio Kickboxing, Circuit Training, HIIT training and TRX classes. I love doing this, it gives me a great deal of pleasure watching people grow and accomplish goals they never thought they could.
What do you do for fun?: For fun I like to go to concerts, hike, I love eating and trying new foods. I’m also very adventurous, and like skydiving, white water rafting and anything outdoors.
Where do you see yourself in five years?: In five years I would like to be a health coach. My goal is to help childhood obesity. It’s a major problem in the U.S. and only getting bigger. I love working with children want to fight this disease.
