Long-time faculty member, Lisa Dutchik, to start new post in January

After a nationwide search, Kirkwood Community College found its next dean of Business & Information Technology from within its own ranks. Lisa Dutchik, an Accounting faculty member at the college’s Iowa City Campus will start as the new dean in January 2013.

Dutchik began at Kirkwood as an adjunct lecturer in 1998. She was also an adjunct at the University of Iowa. In 2004 Dutchik became a full-time instructor on Kirkwood’s main campus in Cedar Rapids. After two years she moved to the Iowa City Campus.

“Lisa’s experience with both the main campus and Iowa City will be an asset to her new role as dean for Business and Information Technology,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs Bill Lamb. “With her nine years of experience as a full-time faculty member at Kirkwood, she has a strong knowledge of our programs and faculty, especially through her work as a Professional Development Fellow.”

Dutchik earned her B.A. in Accounting from St. Ambrose University and her Master of Accountancy from the University of Iowa. At Kirkwood she has primarily taught courses in Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting.

Dutchik is a Certified Public Accountant who began her career in accounting in 1989. She has held roles as an accountant and auditor at McGladrey and Pullen, as well as five years in strategic planning at Harris Corporation, a Fortune 500 company.

“Along with my years of teaching and working with faculty, the skill set I learned at Harris should also contribute to my effectiveness in this new position,” said Dutchik. “In my role as a senior financial analyst there, I was tasked with keeping lines of communication open between senior management and the various divisions of the company. Being a dean will be very similar, working together with administration and the faculty members in the Business & IT department.”

Dutchik lives in Iowa City with her husband of 22 years, Bernard, the vice president of Operations and Logistics at ACT. They have two daughters, ages 18 and 16, and a 10-year-old son. In her free time, she can be found supporting her kids and watching their activities, reading a book and trying to sneak in a show or two on HGTV.
