February Student of the Month: Austen Carnahan

By February 8, 2018October 25th, 2018No Comments

What is your background?: My name is Austen Carnahan and I am from a small town called Oxford, Iowa. I went to Clear Creek Amana High School and graduated 2016. In addition to my parents, I have three sisters and one brother.

What brought you to Kirkwood and why?: I came here to get my general education and find out what I want to do in life for a career.

What is your program of study and what interests you about it?: I really enjoy music, theater and acting and I love helping people with schoolwork.

Are you involved in anything else on campus? If so, what and why?: I am currently in a show called Madwoman of Chaillot. I am the villain called The Prospector. The thing that is very important to my character is finding oil and making a lot of money. He does not care about other people who are not successful like he is. The Prospector has a phenomenal nose and can always find his way around with the right whiff.

Are you involved in anything off of campus?: I recently went to an acting festival and had a professional audition with the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. I got the final callback that I am preparing to audition for to see if I get into the program. I represented Kirkwood by being in the top two from the audition.

What do you do for fun?: I love volleyball, swimming, hanging with friends, reading monologues and then act them out, Lifeguard and teach swim lessons.

Where do you see yourself in five years?: I ask that question about everyday and so far I see myself going into business, teaching or theater/acting and still living life like there is no tomorrow.
