April 21 Program Aims for “Money Smart” Seniors

Free sessions at Guaranty Bank location, downtown C.R.

The Linn County Seniors Against Crime TRIAD presentations for Money Smart Week will be held on Tuesday, April 21 at Guaranty Bank and Trust, 302 3rd Avenue SE. Meetings will be held in the second floor board room. Free parking will be provided in the Guaranty parking lot only. Refreshments are available.

The program sessions include:

• 10 a.m. “Identity Theft: Don’t Be a Victim,” presented by Tom Brennom, Triad board member

• 11 a.m. “What You Should Know about Medicare and Medicare Fraud,” by Sharon Tauke, Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) volunteer and retired Kirkwood Health Science professor

• 1 p.m. “Investment & Insurance Fraud: Why Should You Care?” presented by Jeffrey Johnston, ChFC, President, Premier Investments

• 2 p.m. “Current Schemes & Scams in Iowa,” by Nevin Meredith, Triad group chair and retired area executive

• 3 p.m. “Home Maintenance and Repair Fraud: The Tools You Need Aren’t Stored in the Garage,” by Teresa Robinson, Aging Services

Money Smart Week is a program of the Federal Reserve to promote financial literacy. Several other programs are planned in the area from April 17-25. The Seniors Against Crime TRIAD is an organization of older adults, law enforcement and community organizations whose goal is to prevent crimes against older adults. Linn County members include senior volunteers, Cedar Rapids and Marion police departments, the Linn County Sheriff’s office, Rockwell Collins Retiree Volunteers, Aging Services, Guaranty Bank, and the Heritage Agency on Aging.
