2 p.m .events to include home run derby and scrimmage with 35 Eagles grads

Several weeks ago the call went out to hundreds of former college baseball players at Kirkwood Community College: “Want to visit campus and play a game?”

Close to three dozen said, “Sure!”

So Saturday afternoon, October 3 will be a time for reunions, memories and thanks to their long-time, record-setting coach.

Alumni players include current New York Mets player Tyler Howe, plus several other current and former minor-league players from around Iowa. The players will hold a home-run derby and play a nostalgic game together beginning at 2 p.m. on the Kirkwood main campus baseball field in Cedar Rapids.

About 35 players are expected from John Lewis’s three-decade career as Eagles head coach. Coach Lewis crossed the magical 1,000-win career mark in the spring of 2009 and has entered his 30th season of coaching for the Eagles.
Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.
