Diversity Programs, Events Set at Kirkwood

Speakers, dance and other programs highlight global influences in the Corridor

INTERNATIONAL & DIVERSITY PROGRAMS—Tomorrow and Later in the Month

To recognize the many diverse cultures and nationalities represented on the Kirkwood Community College campus, a series of programs is underway to share information and personal stories of these cultures.

The series includes:

• Wednesday April 15, 7 p.m.: Presentation on “ Waves of Immigration and Assimilation in Iowa since the 1800’s to the Present,” by UNI professors Mark Grey and Michele Devlin.

• April 15, 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.: Campus International Day: International displays and cultural performances with students from 50 nations, featuring Afro Folk (Bando Folklórico Afro).

Other events include:

• Wednesday April 22, 7 p.m.: Presentation on “ The Afro-American Experience in Iowa: Contributions and Challenges,” by Coe College professor James Randall.

• Thursday April 30, 7 p.m.: Presentation on “ The Latino Experience in Iowa: Past and Present “ by Kirkwood Professor Claudio Hidalgo.

• Friday, May 1, 8 p.m.: Multicultural show and dance.

All these programs and events are scheduled for the West Dining Room, Iowa Hall. This series is presented with grant support from Humanities Iowa.
