The Kirkwood Community College baseball team is looking to expand upon their history of success by signing six promising players for the 2008-2009 baseball season.

Brennan Melloy of Cascade has signed on as a middle infielder for the Eagles. Marion natives Pat Lala and Ryan Clark will take the field for the Eagles next season. Lala plays middle infield and Clark will join the roster as a right-handed pitcher.

“They all love baseball,” Head Baseball Coach John Lewis said of his signees. “All of them have been playing since little league. They all respect the game.”

Metro standouts Seth Cox of Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Cal Faul of Cedar Rapids Jefferson have also signed. Cox will play first base for the Eagles and Faul will play in the outfield.

These Iowa natives will be joined by Troy Jorgensen, a right handed pitcher from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
“I bring kids in with the idea that they are coming in to help us right away,” Lewis said. “These kids are good athletes, now they’ve got to show us they can play at this level.”

The Eagles were 38-19 in 2007 and hit .353 as a team. Travis Bennett returns for the Eagles as a 2007 All-American who hit .412 last season.
