Eagles Pitchers Receive Conference Honors

Amanda Lambrecht and Nick Bakeris named ICCAC Players of the Week

Strong pitching performances continue to highlight the season for the Kirkwood Community College baseball and softball teams. For the second time this year, players from each team have been recognized for their exceptional outings.

The honors continue to add up for softball pitcher Amanda Lambrecht of East Moline, Ill. Earning NJCAA and NFCA All-American nods last season, Lambrecht carries her success into her sophomore year.

On March 24, she picked up the Eagles first conference win against Southwestern Community College with eight strikeouts in four innings of work. In her following performance on March 27, Lambrecht recorded another conference win over Iowa Lakes Community College with 11 strikeouts in six innings. In a combined 10 innings of work, Lambrecht surrendered just two hits and one run against her conference opponents.

Since the nomination for Player of the Week, she earned two victories against conference rival Iowa Central Community College. In her dominating performance, Lambrecht tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts in game one, and then threw four excellent innings in game two. After Kirkwood, she plans on attending Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on a softball scholarship.

Freshman baseball pitcher Nick Bakeris of Davenport, Iowa earned Player of the Week honors after picking up a 7-1 conference win against Iowa Lakes Community College. On March 27, Bakeris threw a one-hitter in seven strong innings of work with four strikeouts. On the year, he has a 1-0 record in 14 innings of work with a 3.77 ERA. After Kirkwood, Bakeris plans on transferring to a four-year school to continue his academics and play baseball.

The Eagles softball team (15-5) continues conference play with a home game against Marshalltown Community College starting at 3 p.m. today, March 31. The baseball team (10-8) travels to Marshalltown today, March 31, for a conference game starting at 2 p.m.
