Heritage Agency Offers Caregiver Info Sessions

The Heritage Agency is offering free education sessions for senior caregivers. The first hour long session will be held on Wednesday, September 1 at 3:30 p.m. in the Heritage Agency conference room on the Kirkwood Community College campus.

The featured speaker is Kathi Moss, of Horizons Financial Counseling. Moss will present an instructional program on creating and managing a budget. With the recent economic downturn, many Iowans are trying to save money wherever they can. For caregivers who are trying to help their care recipient, one budget can be a struggle. Agency officials define a caregiver as an individual who takes part in looking out for the well-being of someone else.

“Many people don’t realize that a task as simple as visiting a neighbor once a week to check up on them makes them a caregiver,” said Katherine Hines of the Heritage Agency. “Our Family Caregiver Support program is designed to provide knowledge of local resources and encouragement to help the caregiver and care recipient in their daily lives.”

Caregivers interested in attending may call Hines for more information at 319-398-5559, or toll-free: (800)332-5934. The Heritage Agency plans more informational sessions for caregivers in the coming months.
