Kirkwood Community College will host two High Tech Days this fall targeting local middle school and high school students interested in exploring business and information technology careers. High Tech Guys Day is scheduled for Friday, October 24, 2014 and High Tech Girls Day is scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2014. Both High Tech Days will take place in Nielsen Hall on Kirkwood’s main campus from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students will take part in interactive workshops and presentations on graphic communication technology, computer support, hardware repair and other in-demand technology careers in business and information technology.

Kirkwood program coordinator Sharon Blanchard is part of the High Tech Days organizing team and says that each event introduces area middle school and high school students from 8th grade to seniors to high paying, high demand career ideas.

“This is a unique opportunity for students to experience a variety of information technology fields taught here at Kirkwood. We have designed projects and demonstrations so the student can rotate through the labs to get hands-on experience in these skills,” Blanchard said.

The High Tech Days program will feature hands-on labs in:

• Computer Software Development
• Network and System Administration
• Graphic Communication Technology
• Geographic Information Systems
• Computer Support and Hardware Repair
• Web Technologies

Lunch will be served during the one-day program.
