So, tell us about your background. Where did you grow up? What were your favorite activities in high school?: I was originally born in Creston, Iowa, but moved to the Cedar Rapids area at a young age. I graduated from Alburnett High School, where I was involved in about every club and sport I could participate in. My favorite activities in high school were the many sports – specifically dance, track, and basketball – and numerous volunteer-based clubs. (I was involved in almost every club or elite organization Alburnett had to offer.)

How did you decide on Kirkwood?: I knew I wanted to attend Kirkwood because of its affordability, the scholarship opportunities they offer students, and the friendly environment of people who work with the students each day. I came from a small school and knew that transitioning to Kirkwood would offer me many opportunities in the classroom, as well as set me up for a successful future.

Looking back over the past two years, what are some of your favorite times at Kirkwood?: My favorite times would include participating in the Kirkwood Ambassador organization where I met and worked with many great students and the Admissions team. I enjoyed being a leader for Cedar Rapids Dance Marathon (a group that supports the U of I’s Children’s Hospital) and traveling to Des Moines with Student Leadership Council to lobby for community colleges in Iowa.

What are your plans after graduation this spring?: After finishing my journey at Kirkwood, I will be attending the University of Iowa’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Only eight students are accepted each year. I plan to become an ultrasonographer. I will be there for three years, and will graduate in 2017 with my Bachelor of Science.

Imagine that it’s the summer of 2019–five years from now. Where will you be, and what will you be doing?: Five years from now I will have graduated from the University of Iowa DMS Program, hopefully working in a clinic or hospital near the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area as an ultrasound technologist, and volunteering within the community. I have always wanted to choose a career path where I can help people on a daily basis, and that is exactly what I will be doing.
