Bakeris sets the curve
Bakeris and Waak honored by the NJCAA for academic accomplishments
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) awarded Kirkwood Community College baseball players for their academic success this year. Sophomores Nick Bakeris and Ryan Waak earned the Exemplary Academic Achievement award after achieving 3.79 GPAs.
Bakeris (Davenport, Iowa) pitched eight games for the Eagles, earning a 1-3 record with 21 strikeouts and 11 walks. Outfielder Waak (Wilton, Iowa) tallied 35 hits with six doubles and 19 RBIs in 38 games.
As a team, the Eagles earned an impressive 3.001 GPA for the second semester, with seven players scoring above 3.5. The team ended the fall semester with a 3.3 GPA.
