Kirkwood Basketball Players Receive All-Region Selections

After successful seasons, many Kirkwood Community College basketball players earned spots on the All-Region XI team.

Leading the men’s basketball team to a 27-5 overall record and an ICCAC conference championship, sophomores Michael Weber (Ames, Iowa) and Eddie Denard (Chicago, Ill.) were named First Team All-Region players. Sophomores Preston Brunz (Mankato, Minn.) and Antione Howard (Milwaukee, Wisc.) earned second team honors. Freshman Matt Tiby (Urbandale, Iowa) came in as an Honorable Mention All-Region selection.

Weber was also nominated as an NJCAA All-American. Selections will be released after the national tournament.

On the women’s team, sophomores Teasha Harris (Bloomington, Ill.) and Kate Hartman (Northwood, Iowa), along with freshman Bianca Dufelmeier (Ames, Iowa) received First Team All-Region honors. Freshmen Kianna Jacobs (Milwaukee, Wisc.) and Aisle Quinlan (West Des Moines, Iowa) were named to the second team, and freshman Kayla Hulsebus (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was selected to the third team.

The Kirkwood women finished the season with an undefeated (16-0) conference record and a bid to the national tournament. The Eagles play for fifth place on Saturday, March 24 at the Division II NJCAA National Tournament in East Peoria, Ill. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
