Kirkwood’s Ryan Johnson

The Kirkwood Eagles golf team finished in fourth place at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. The team saved their best rounds for the final day as the Eagles jumped from tenth place following the third round to fourth place in the final standings.
Kirkwood was lead by Jordan Azbell and Sean Cleary who both shot four over for the tournament and finished 18th and 20th respectively.

The Kirkwood golf team looks for a solid finish as they head into the final round at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. The Eagles slid a bit in the standings, however they are still just a few strokes from landing in the top five. The final round is today at Goose Pond Colony Golf Course in Scottsboro, Ala.
The Kirkwood Eagles individual scores after three rounds are as follows:
Sean Cleary: 75, 70, 72 – 217 (+1) T-18th
Marcus Giltner: 78, 73, 72 – 223 (+7) T-38th
Jordan Azbell: 75, 72, 78 – 225 (+9) T-46th
Mitch Jacobi: 76, 73, 77 – 226 (+10) T-51st
Ryan Johnson: 78, 74, 76 – 228 (+12) T-61st

After two days of competition, the Kirkwood golf team is in sixth place at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. Each Eagle golfer shaved strokes off of their previous rounds in the tournament to help the team move up several spots in the standings.

Sean Cleary: 75, 70 – 145 (+1) T-11th
Jordan Azbell: 75, 72 – 147 (+3) T-17th
Mitch Jacobi: 76, 73 – 149 (+5) T-28th
Marcus Giltner: 78, 73 – 151 (+7) T-34th
Ryan Johnson: 78, 74 – 152 (+8) T-36th

The Eagles pursuit of a national title continues today
The sixth-ranked Kirkwood golf team began their quest for glory Tuesday as they played in the opening rounds of the NJCAA Division II Men’s Golf National Championship. The tournament, held in Scottsboro, Ala. at Goose Pond Colony Golf Course, features regional team champions and individual qualifiers from all over the country.
The Kirkwood team qualified for the tournament by winning the Region XI title in early May. As a team, the Eagles bested the next closest school by more than 20 strokes. Ryan Johnson led the team at regionals with a tournament best 147 for two rounds. The team also rounded out the top three with runner-up Mitch Jacobi (148) and Marcus Giltner (148) who took third place.
Last season, the Eagles finished at number nine at the national tournament. Individually, Kirkwood’s Mitch Jacobi completed the tournament tied for 26th place at 16-over par.
