Rated 11th-best large company in the state, according to the Des Moines Register
The employees have spoken. Kirkwood Community College was just selected as one of Iowa’s Top Workplaces, by the Des Moines Register. Kirkwood was rated the 11th-best company to work for, of companies with at least 500 employees, making it the highest-ranked college or university in the state.
The top workplaces are determined based solely on employee feedback. The survey was conducted by WorkplaceDynamics, LLP, a Pennsylvania-based research firm focused on organizational health and employee engagement.
Kirkwood employees enjoy many professional development opportunities, free use of the college’s recreation center, free admission to campus events and tuition discounts for family members. There are generous vacation policies and retirement programs to choose from as well.
Here’s what some employees stated in the anonymous survey:
• “I am challenged on a daily basis to broaden and enhance my knowledge and skills.”
• “I have freedom and support to be creative.”
• “I am thankful for the faith and confidence that our management team has towards our ability to not only complete the job, but complete it well. Kirkwood’s benefits are wonderful.”
• “The benefits are great. I am proud to say that I work at Kirkwood because of its reputation in the community.”
Kirkwood President Mick Starcevich said he’s not surprised by the feedback from employees at the college.
“We challenge our employees to make sure they’re doing what’s needed to put student success at the forefront of their daily work,” said Starcevich. “When people work towards something they believe in, like changing the lives of our students, it’s easy to see why so many of our employees say such positive things about Kirkwood. We’re honored to be recognized as one of the best places to work, because it’s our employees that make it that way.”
At the time of the survey, Kirkwood Community College employed 1,022 people across its 10 locations in east-central Iowa.
