Multi-national team a rarity in SIFE circles; community projects at the fore of year-long work

The Kirkwood Community College Students in Free Enterprise team earned high marks in recent Chicago Regional Competition. The 2008-09 SIFE team took First Runner Up honors with a multi-national line-up. They competed against 2 other teams from around the Midwest.

The Kirkwood team completed 16 projects during the 2008-09 academic year, meeting all seven SIFE contest criteria. The team taught a variety of skills to their fellow Kirkwood students as well as local schoolchildren and community members. Themes included market economics, personal success skills, helping entrepreneurs, personal finance skills, environmentally sustainable projects, ethics and team sustainability.

Kirkwood SIFE team is composed of students from 14 cities, 10 countries and six continents. Advisors Todd Saville and Bob Walker are both very proud of the work the students did this year to make a positive impact on our community.

“These SIFE students have a head for business and a heart for the world. We have all been so impressed with their enthusiasm, knowledge and creativity they have displayed in many settings. It is exciting to experience a diverse group of students coming together to form a team, achieving common goals to better their community,” Walker said.

Kirkwood has hosted a SIFE team for eight years and won regional competitions four years, as well as receiving many national citations.
