Eagles Begin Their Quest for a Second Straight Regional Title Tuesday Night

The number one-seeded Kirkwood Eagles volleyball team (31-7) will open the first round of the NJCAA Region XI-B Tournament by hosting Marshalltown Community College (22-19) on Tuesday night.

The Eagles, who have maintained a top-10 national ranking throughout the season, won the Regional Championship last season and hope to repeat last year’s success. Kirkwood Volleyball Head Coach Jill Williams likes her team’s chances but knows nothing will be given to them.

“Anything can happen in the post-season,” said Williams. “We have a talented team and we’ve played well, but championships are earned not given. Emotions can run high and you have to be prepared for every team’s best shot. One slip in focus can mean the difference between advancing to the next round or going home.”

Tuesday night’s game will decide who will move on to the Region XI-B Championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The winner of the Championship Game advances to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament November 21-23 in Toledo, Ohio.

Last season the Eagles finished ninth at the National Tournament.

Tuesday night’s contest versus Marshalltown will air locally on The Kirkwood Channel on Mediacom as well as streamed live on the web at www.kirkwood.edu/ktslive. The game will begin at 7 p.m. in Johnson Hall on Kirkwood’s main campus.
