First round matchup at Johnson Hall moved to Wednesday because of coming winter storm

The Kirkwood Women’s basketball team wrapped up a very successful regular season on Saturday and now head to the postseason. The team won the regular season conference championship with an overall record of 26-4 and went 15-1 in conference games. Up next for the Eagles is the Region XI Tournament where the Eagles are the top seed.

It’s been a season to remember to this point for Kirkwood. Currently, the team is ranked number two in the national polls. Hall of Fame Coach Kim Muhl reached the 700-victory mark earlier this year. With six NJCAA Division II championships under their belts, he and his coaching staff have positioned his Eagles to make another run at glory.

“Obviously we have a great legacy here at Kirkwood,” Assistant Coach Joe Hruska said. “We’ve had a lot of good teams in the past and this team is as good as them. I think our record reflects that this year. But we’re not satisfied. We still need to keep working towards the goals we set out to accomplish at the beginning of the season.”

The schedule for the Women’s Region XI Tournament, originally scheduled to take place March 5-9, has been adjusted due to the oncoming winter storm. First round games that were to be on March 5 have been moved to the following day. The semifinals and finals will remain on March 8-9.

Kirkwood hosts Ellsworth Community College (11-19, 4-12) in the first round Wednesday at Johnson Hall. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m.
