As the postseason approaches, the Eagles (18-12, 9-5) look to capitalize on a number two seed in the Region XI tournament. Head Coach Doug Wagemester, who notched career win number 400 this year, has a squad with five sophomores who were on the team last season and who know what it takes to succeed in the postseason.

“It sounds obvious, but I believe you need to be healthy and playing your best basketball of the season as tournament time nears,” said Wagemester. “The players need to be confident in their approach and understand the consequences of having a bad night.”

The postseason brings with it more pressure to perform. Having a “bad night” could mean an end to the season. However, Wagemester says the focus of the team remains the same regardless of the stakes.

“We do not really change our approach,” said Wagemester. “We prepare for each game in a similar fashion and remind them of the postseason goal: to advance to Danville, Illinois for nationals.”

The schedule for the Men’s Region XI tournament, originally scheduled March 5-9, has been changed due to the oncoming winter storm. First round games that were to be played on March 5 have been moved to March 6. In addition, the finals and semifinals will be on March 8 and 10. The times and locations will remain the same.

The Eagles’ first round game versus Northern Iowa Area Community College (19-11, 6-8) is Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., at Johnson Hall.
