Tickets will be honored at the March 29 concert

[Updated 2/20, 2 p.m.] Due to impending winter weather Thursday into Friday, Kirkwood’s Vocal Jazz Fest has been postponed from Friday, February 22 until Friday, March 29.

The Vocal Jazz Fest includes high school students from around Iowa singing and being critiqued by the Grammy Award-winning New York Voices throughout the day. Because of travel concerns for the students and the New York Voices coming to Cedar Rapids, a decision was made to reschedule.

Purchased tickets to the concert will be accepted for the March 29 concert. Additional questions can be answered by calling Kirkwood’s Arts & Humanities department at 319-398-4956.

Kirkwood Community College’s Vocal Jazz Fest will see some of the Iowa’s best high school vocal jazz groups perform during the day, Friday, February 22. At night, the Grammy Award-winning New York Voices take the Ballantyne Auditorium stage with Kirkwood’s RSVP and Jazz Transit groups.

Each year this annual festival brings talented singers from around Iowa to work closely with a group of prominent vocal musicians. This year the schools come from eastern Iowa, the Des Moines area and as far as Spirit Lake.

Each group will perform with the New York Voices watching each performance, offering critiques to the groups and announcing outstanding musician awards.

After the high school portion of the event, the New York Voices and Kirkwood’s RSVP and Jazz Transit groups will perform for the students and members of the public. The show is sold out, but tickets are being given away to KCCK listeners. More information on the New York Voices can be found at http://www.newyorkvoices.com/.
