Student of the Month

November Student of the Month: Daniel Daly

What is your background?: I am from Pecatonica, Illinois a small town just west of Rockford Illinois. I grew up on my family’s farm where we grow corn, soybeans, wheat, hay, and raise cattle. I went to Pecatonica High School where I was involved in FFA, band, and was on our school’s bass fishing team.

What brought you to Kirkwood and why?: What brought me to Kirkwood was the hands-on classes and the fact that most of the classes that I had to take were ag related. I also liked having the option to transfer to a four-year college if I decided I wanted to. I wanted to move away from home for college and Kirkwood was a perfect fit.

What is your program of study and what interests you about it?: I am in the ag business program. I am very interested in the business side of agriculture and like how my program offers classes that would be helpful in running my own ag business someday and also classes related to ag sales, and even agronomy and animal science.

Are you involved in anything else on campus? If so, what and why?: I am involved in Kirkwood’s Ag business club. It offers many opportunities to meet people and network with people from the ag industry that could lead to internships or even possible job opportunities. I also participated in the Kirkwood Ag Sciences career fair, professionalism banquet, and interview contest last year and enjoyed networking with many people in the ag industry.

What do you do for fun?: For fun I enjoy fishing, hunting and being outdoors.

Where do you see yourself in five years?: In five years, I plan to continue to be involved in agriculture. After I graduate in the spring, I plan to work in Ag retail. I would also like to take over my family’s farm someday, as I have always enjoyed farming and working with my family.
