Cedar Rapids, Iowa (March 4, 2016)-The Kirkwood men’s basketball team advanced to the championship game in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Region XI Men’s Basketball Tournament after defeating Iowa Central 90-61 in the semifinals. The Eagles now face the third-seeded Iowa Lakes Lakers for a chance to go to the national tournament.

Head Coach Bryan Petersen, now in his third season, has guided the team to its best season yet under his leadership. The Eagles, ranked sixth in the nation, went 25-4 overall and 10-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The team ended the conference schedule in a three-way tie with Southwestern and the Iowa Lakes. The three top teams split their head-to-head contests. Kirkwood earned the number one seed in the regional tournament based off of strength of schedule.

Petersen’s squad was defeated by the Lakers (25–7, 10-2) on February 6 which was the last time the Eagles lost. Kirkwood has won seven straight since that contest.
