New Chef de Cuisine Daniel Dennis

The Hotel at Kirkwood Center is pleased to announce Daniel Dennis as the new Chef de Cuisine at The Class Act restaurant. The Cedar Rapids native is no stranger to Kirkwood, having graduated from the college with degrees in Culinary Arts and Bakery, then spending time working at Zins, the Cedar Rapids Mariott, Cedar Rapids Country Club, The Class Act Restaurant and teaching Kirkwood Continuing Education classes. As Chef de Cuisine, Dennis manages the kitchen and kitchen staff, mentors students and develops new menus and specialty recipes.

“This is a great opportunity to be on the cutting edge of the culinary field at Kirkwood,” Dennis said. “And, I really enjoy working with the students, who will someday develop into the future of the industry.”

The Class Act, through projects like its onsite Chef’s Garden and emphasis on locally grown produce, is, in a way, returning to its culinary roots and developing a more healthy and sustainable way to cook.

“We are moving towards a more local, fresh concept,” Dennis said. “We strongly believe in reconnecting the producer and the consumer in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way. Classic techniques, local ingredients, modern plating. Our Spring menu will be featuring this concept and will be rolling out in the second week of May.”
