Two locations planned, south C.R. and Iowa City

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa Small Business Development Center (SBDC), in cooperation with Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa (UI), will be opening a Corridor
Business Recovery Center commencing the week of September 15th.

The services provided there will focus specifically on assisting businesses that have been impacted by
flooding in the area, even if no physical damage was sustained. Area businesses that have suffered an impact to their cash flow, customer base, supply chain, or workforce are encouraged to contact the Corridor Business Recovery Center. All counseling provided by the Corridor Business Recovery Center will be free of charge.

Two locations are available for disaster recovery counseling. The southern location will be in Iowa City at the University of Iowa SBDC office at 2660 University Capitol Centre, Suite 2673. The telephone number there is 319-335-3742. The northern location will be located in Cedar Rapids at the Kirkwood Continuing Education Center, 7725 Kirkwood Blvd SW. The telephone number there is 319-377-8256.

Other disaster recovery counseling sites will be established at the Technology Innovation Center at the Oakdale Campus of UI, and the Kirkwood Training and
Outreach Center in Marion. Disaster counseling at the Corridor Business Recovery Center will be available to any for-profit business with fewer than 500 employees. Affected businesses should call for an appointment.

The northern team leader will be Steve Sprague, former Kirkwood SBDC director. Sprague has strong business counseling skills, with a background in strategic planning for evolving organizations, and broad experience in business and industry training and organizational design. The southern team leader will be Thomas Pickering, who founded and directs a consulting firm of associates with extensive, hands-on experience in research, training, planning, finance, human resources, and marketing.

In addition, a team of subject matter experts on grant writing, taxes, accounting, retail marketing, and hi-tech marketing will be available to assist area businesses in disaster recovery.

The services to be provided by the Corridor Business Recovery Center are in addition to the regular and customary SBDC services, which will continue at the Iowa City and Marion SBDC offices.

The Iowa Small Business Development Centers are an outreach program of Iowa State University and are funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the Small Business
Administration.
