Return trip to D-II Nationals toughens a player trio for next year

This year the Kirkwood Community College Golf Team (47-14-1) finished as Region XI champions and qualified the whole team for the D-II National Tournament in Scottsboro, Alabama. Kirkwood came out of the competition with an 11th in the nation finish and a lot of solid tournament experience for their first-year players.

Head Coach Darin Pint will be returning three strong freshmen:

• Dillon Cooney [Louisa Muscatine High School] • Ned Carter [Iowa City High School] • Derek McConnell [Centennial High School-Calgary, Alberta, Canada]

Pint expressed his excitement about the outcome of the 2009 season and began looking ahead, “I’m very proud of the way these guys devoted themselves to practice every day. They represented our school well around the state and at Nationals. I’m looking forward to August already,” Pint said.

In addition to returning the three freshmen, Kirkwood also already has three new recruits signed for next season:

• Kyler Stahle [Solon High School] • Brady Maher [Prairie City Monroe High School] • Dane Jenkins [Prairie City Monroe High School]

Darin Pint has just finished out his 13th year as head coach of the Kirkwood Community College Golf Team. His teams have finished in the top 15 in the nation seven of the last nine years. Last year, the team won the Regional Tourney and finished seventh in the nation.
