Jones County Leadership Program seeks members for 2010-11 class

In 1995, a hopeful program began in Jones County. The goal was to encourage community involvement, professional development and leadership training for up-and-coming individuals in the county.

That is still the goal for the Jones County Leadership Program in 2010, and the results can be found working, excelling and above all leading in the area. A new season of engaging and informative sessions will begin December 14.

One of the early graduates of the program is Kristy Black of Kirkwood Community College. She says the program is an “eye-opening experience” and a “great bargain” in the process.

“Kirkwood is pleased to support this program as part of our continuing education offerings to the area. Thanks to great support from businesses and involved individuals, we can offer these sessions for just $99. It is simply a great program at an unbeatable price for the experience,” Black observed.

In addition to Kirkwood’s coordination of the program, support is provided by the Jones County Board of Supervisors.

The Jones County Leadership Program for 2010-11 includes six afternoon sessions held at different community sites. The opening session will highlight “The Power of Community Service,” featuring Camp Courageous of Iowa Executive Director Charlie Becker. Other area human service providers will also join in a panel discussion.

Additional sessions are set for 2011: January 11, February 8, March 15, April 12 and May 10. Topics will include nonprofit board involvement, giving top-level presentations, personality profile training, new technologies and economic development.

Area employers are encouraged to nominate and sponsor employees for the program. More information and registration is available from Kristy Black at the Jones Regional Education Center, (319) 465-2302.
