Event notes UN and rights issues, marks International Women’s Day

The Kirkwood United Nations Association (UNA) Student Alliance is sponsoring a program focusing on international women’s rights concerns. The program is set for Thursday evening, March 12, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the 234 Cedar Hall “Green Room.”

Presenters will include Alice Dahle, immediate past president of the Linn County UNA and longtime advocate for global women’s rights will be talking about issues raised at an international UN conference on women’s rights that she has just attended in NYC. Also presenting is Kara Moberg, a University of Iowa law student. Moberg will talk about her recent research on laws relating to people who have been trafficked, when they consider bringing charges against their traffickers.

The event is additionally a fundraiser for Somalian women’s education. The program is also in recognition of International Women’s Day, which was noted around the world on March 8.

Refreshments will be provided at the event and everyone is welcome to attend. More information is available from Kirkwood Social Science Instructor Jeremy Brigham, via e-mail: jeremy.brigham@kirkwood.edu
