Kirkwood Iowa City Campus Hosts Wellness Fair

Free event set for April 3

The Iowa City Campus of Kirkwood Community College will be the site for a free Health and Wellness Fair on Thursday, April 3. More than 20 exhibitors and information booths will share a wide range of information and demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Commons area on Lower Muscatine Road. The public is encouraged to attend. Free parking is available behind the main building.

Facts on general health and tips for relaxation and mental wellness will be key parts of the fair. Local businesses and health experts presenting at the event include The Zen Center, Eastwind School of Massage and the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Also presenting are area fitness opportunities including Cindy K Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Iowa City Parks and Recreation, Running Wild and the Arthritis Foundation. Healthy eating and living tips will be provided from Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating, New Pioneer Co-Op, Xango the Mangosteen Juice, Nutrisport, March of Dimes and the American Heart Association.

Information will be provided on smoking cessation from Cafe Johnson, area insurance and nutritional programs for children from the Visiting Nurses Association and the ISU Extension Office, and programs concerning free breast and cervical services for qualifying individuals from the Visiting Nurses Association.

Free services include body fat and blood pressure testing, bone density testing, HPV and heartburn awareness, diabetes risk assessment, thermal scans and Dermascan for skin health screenings.
