WILLIAMSBURG, Iowa (Oct. 22, 2025)– Kirkwood Community College’s Workplace Learning Connection (WLC), a nationally recognized work-based learning organization supporting middle school and high school students, will be hosting the Iowa County High School Career Fair at the Williamsburg Recreation Center on Wednesday, November 5. More than 300 high school students from Belle Plaine, English Valleys, H-L-V, Iowa Valley and Williamsburg high schools will explore future career opportunities at the event.
The event is designed to connect students with local employers and showcase in-demand careers in healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, business, skilled trades and more. A variety of local businesses are expected to participate, providing students with the opportunity to establish professional connections, ask questions, and learn about part-time or post-graduation opportunities within their own communities. Engaging area students early plays a pivotal role in economic vitality, especially in more rural communities like Iowa County.
“The Iowa County Career Fair is a great opportunity for young people to learn about the fantastic employment opportunities in their own backyard,” said Iowa County Sheriff Rob Rotter. “Local businesses have the opportunity to share their story with students and help keep local talent from looking elsewhere for employment.”
According to WLC Event Coordinator Tonya Caron, the event is an effective way to introduce students to many area employers, including some that they might not have known about previously.
“It is so exciting to see our local students exploring their career opportunities right here in Iowa County,” said Caron. “The fair gives students a chance to begin making connections and get face-to-face with prospective future employers. We have local businesses that come back year after year, but we also invite new businesses each year to encourage their growth as well.”
By partnering with local schools and employers, WLC continues to create hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for success after high school and strengthen the region’s economic future. As part of the event, students are also able to apply for a WLC second-semester job shadow experience while they are on-site at the fair. A job shadow provides an additional career exploration opportunity as these students continue to think about their future college and career plans.
