What is your background?: I was born and raised in Bukavu, a city in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of The Congo. I’m the oldest of five siblings. I have two little brothers and two little sisters. Indeed, I attended Alfajiri High School where I studied sciences and played basketball. I moved to the United States in October 2024 and started my journey as an international student in the United States.
What brought you to Kirkwood and why?: Well, I started my journey in the Intensive English program at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. When I completed the program and was ready to start college, I remember having a talk with one of my uncles that lived in Iowa for a while, and told me about Kirkwood, the affordability of the school, and the transfer possibilities. I never heard of community colleges before that, which made it pretty confusing. However, after research, I just decided to give it a try and trust the process. Thus, I moved to Iowa last Fall 2025.
What is your program of study and what interests you about it?: I’m studying Liberal Arts on the engineering and premed track. I have strong interest in medicine and healthcare, and after Kirkwood, I plan to attend a four-year school to earn a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. I wish to attend medical school after that. My dream is to perform an open surgery one day.
Are you involved in anything on campus?: On campus, I am part of the STEM club, Dance Marathon and the Global Student Association. I also help with activities of Global Learning like the new international student orientations.
What do you do for fun?: I enjoy playing basketball with friends, trying new food, and visiting new places. However, what makes me happiest is calling my family all day.
Where do you see yourself in five years?: I don’t know what the future holds for me for the next five years. I’ve got a lot of goals in mind, but I know that God has the best plan. So far, I’ll be attending medical school in five years. (Matthew 9:29)
