CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Aug. 14, 2026)–Kirkwood Community College will award one high school senior graduating in 2027 a scholarship covering a full year of tuition through a giveaway at the college’s booth at the 2026 Iowa State Fair. Fairgoers can visit the Kirkwood booth in the Varied Industries Building through Sunday, Aug. 23.

Provided by the Kirkwood Foundation, the scholarship covers tuition for up to 15 credit hours in the fall 2027 semester and up to 15 credit hours in the spring 2028 semester at Kirkwood’s published Iowa resident tuition rate. Based on the current rate of $229 per credit hour, the scholarship is worth approximately $6,870.

“The State Fair is one of the few places where you’ll find families from all over Iowa in the same building, and a lot of them are thinking about what comes next for their high schooler,” said Kirkwood Director of Admissions Nick Kettmann. “The scholarship starts that conversation, and once we’re talking, students usually have questions we’re glad to answer.”

Eligible students can enter by visiting the Kirkwood booth and completing a short online form. The giveaway is open to high school students graduating in 2027, with one entry allowed per person. Entries close Sunday, Aug. 23.

One winner will be selected at random during the week of Aug. 24 and notified by email and phone. The winner will have seven days to respond.

The Kirkwood booth also will offer giveaways for other visitors. Students in the classes of 2028, 2029 and 2030 can enter to win a Bluetooth speaker or other Kirkwood prizes. Current Kirkwood students can receive a free lunch from the Kirkwood Café, and Kirkwood alumni can enter a hotel stay giveaway at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center.
